Opened in November 2002, Edo is the leading high standard Japanese food venue in Kuwait. The vision of Lebanese born Chris and Sumaya Boustany, Edo aims to provide quality Japanese cuisine in a contemporary and relaxing setting. The name Edo, as well as being the former name of Tokyo, refers to a period in Japanese history (1603 – 1867), which is considered to be one of the most prosperous in terms of culture and the arts. The setting is a late 1950’s villa which has been completely renovated by Sumaya Boustany, the architect of the project. By stripping the building back to the basic structure she was able to combine the original architectural features of the villa with her contemporary design ideas. One striking feature of this villa was the colonnades which formed part of the original balcony and are now part of the interior and give a feeling of clean order to the front of the building.
