Since 1948, Shell has been working in partnership with Kuwait to bring its crude oil to international markets. From those early days Shell business in Kuwait developed to include oil and petroleum products trading, lubricants, upstream and downstream technical services and chemicals sales. Shell is committed to working with Kuwait, through its partnerships with Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and subsidiaries across the upstream and downstream business, both in Kuwait and internationally.Today, the long standing KPC-Shell cross-business MoU provides a unique approach to strategic cooperation that successfully delivered the Jurassic Gas project and the LNG supply agreement. Shell Companies in Kuwait operates through its corporate team located at Kuwait City and Jurassic Gas project team stationed along side Kuwait Oil Company technical team. Through their network, Shell locally based staff has access to Shell’s global expertise from Shell Head Quarters in the Netherland and other global centres of excellence.Working relations with Kuwait is cemented across the oil and gas value chain. Shell is working with Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) on the development of the Jurassic Gas fields since early 2010. Shell technical experts are working with Kuwait to support KOC in managing the ongoing development of the Jurassic Gas fields. In addition, Shell’s operational excellent and diverse LNG portfolio, supported signing an LNG supply contract to cover peak summer periods between April-October for the years 2010 until 2013.Shell has a number of international joint ventures with Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC) and, in 2005, extended collaboration with Kuwait through an MOU with Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI) to develop projects in global markets.Shell Lubricants\' distributor, Al-Hafez Trading, supplies the local lubricants market and has more than 15% of the market share. In Kuwait\'s refineries much has been achieved over the past few years by Shell Global Solutions, in partnership with Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC).part from business relations, Shell enjoys a number of social partnerships in Kuwait. In 2010, Shell launched the Pre-Engineering Design Competition in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Center for Engineering Consultancy to develop the youth skills in science and technology. In early 2012, Shell has partnered with Kuwait University to establish a new Professorial Chair in Gas to be known as the “Shell Natural Gas Chair.” The Professorial Chair will focus on the development of a research and teaching programme for the safe and efficient management of the natural gas fields in Kuwait.For me it is a privilege to be in Kuwait and extend my knowledge to KPC and its subsidiaries. I look forward to seeing Shell help develop the skills and capabilities of the country’s people.
