We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Director of Sport to maintain the school’s prominent position and highly regarded reputation as one of the region’s most successful sporting prep schools. Having previously appointed an outstanding candidate, family health issues have arisen and unfortunately prevent the appointee taking up the post. This is therefore a wonderful opportunity for an outstanding specialist to seize an opportunity at a highly successful and prominent APS school in the Middle East.
The successful candidate will:
be highly motivated
be an excellent role model
be an excellent people manager
have a proven track record in delivering a quality, balanced PE curriculum from the Early Years to KS3
be an outstanding administrator
be able to develop excellence in our most able performers
promote ‘sport for all’ and healthy eating and lifestyles for all of our pupils
The ability to be able to coach school teams to a high level in a number of the following sports would be an advantage: athletics, basketball, football and volleyball. The Director of Sport will also have responsibility for managing the swimming teachers and a number of well-qualified and enthusiastic staff who coach various teams, as well as three part-time PE teachers who also contribute significantly to the overall programme.
As a result of the school’s excellent teaching programme and coaching and development structure, both the Under 13 and Under 11 teams were British Schools in the Middle East Games Champions in 2014 and 2015, and the Under 11 team retained the trophy once again in 2016. The school’s teams also dominate local competitions in an array of seasonal sporting events and competitions, although this success has only emerged in recent years as a result of the dedication and expertise of the Director of Sport and members of the teaching and coaching team.
The school’s facilities include a superb 25m outdoor swimming pool, high quality indoor air-conditioned gymnasium, outdoor areas and artificial pitches on campus for football, tennis and netball. We also make good use of local facilities in Kuwait to support our programme. Additionally, as a part of our broad extracurricular activities programme, we employ outside coaches to provide opportunities in a range of sports for children of all levels after school.
Energy, experience, expertise and a willingness to go the extra mile are prerequisites for the role of Director of Sport at TES, as we look to build on the excellence developed during the last few years. Inevitably, with this brief in this type of school, the successful candidate will need to be an excellent communicator and people manager as the pupils are in demand in lots of different areas in school.
Candidates must have British qualifications. They are expected to hold a Bachelor’s degree and a recognised teaching qualification. Prior experience in an international school setting is not essential. If you are considering working overseas for the first time, or even have a significant amount of international experience, then Kuwait might just provide you with an opportunity that changes your life for the good and forever. There is something magical about working at TES and Kuwait has a unique attraction which makes it difficult to leave.
