Understanding the LEED v4 Building Design & Construction ( BD + C ) & Rating System

Overview: 
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) includes a variety of rating systems that are recognized as the international mark of excellence for green building in over 132 countries.
LEED addresses the design, construction, operations and maintenance of buildings, in addition to development on community scale.

These full- days, interactive workshop introduces the intent, key elements, main requirements and unique aspects of the Green Building Design and Construction (BD+C) LEED v4 rating systems.

Workshop participants will gain a solid understanding of the core concepts and strategies behind a successful green construction project.

This workshop is not a technical review of every credit. All credits will be addressed but the intent is to teach the concepts and goals of these rating systems through understanding of the prerequisites, key credits, and synergies among the categories.

Workshop lecturer: 
Hamoda Youssef – As a research specialist and sustainability consultant at the Qatar Green Building Council, Hamoda coordinates sustainability integration efforts for a variety of projects, sustainability oriented initiatives, programs, and building codes As a LEED Faculty, he facilitates sustainability trainings, provides sustainability assessment and consulting.

Prior to joining QGBC, Hamoda worked at Green building services as a senior sustainability consultant and he managed a site wide LEED consultancy services for a mixed-use development in Doha, Qatar. Hamoda managed all aspects of LEED projects from kick-off to closeout, assigning team responsibilities and making sure all documentation is complete and uploaded to LEED Online for the highest level of LEED certification possible within a project’s budget, timeline, and site constraints.

Previously, Hamoda worked on international consultancy offices in Egypt, along with working on environmental urban development projects in Italy & USA. Hamoda studied architecture, earning a Masters degree in environmental planning from Italy that allowed him to focus on sustainability issues within the context of urban development.
In addition to his work as a consultant, Hamoda assists in the development of presentations & trainings for industry professionals and clients, covering topics from green building planning & design strategies to understanding sustainability.

Workshop objectives:
• Identify the intent, requirements, and strategies for success with LEED v4 credits in the Building Design and Construction rating systems.
• Identify strategies between credits both within and between credit categories;
• Recognize how rating system structure and credit requirements improve project team experience.
• Recognize how credit requirements lead to higher performing buildings and market transformation.
• Identify rating systems that are new and are designed to address particular building types.

• Individuals who have worked on projects under previous versions of LEED will find this course a quick way to get up- to- speed on the major differences to be found in the v4 BD+C rating systems.
