Attorney Hani Hussein Has Submitted A Petition To Challenge Dissolution

Attorney Hani Hussein has submitted a petition to the Constitutional Court to declare the decree on dissolving the National Assembly unconstitutional. In his petition, the lawyer pointed out that the decree did not meet the conditions for dissolving the Assembly, citing lack of legal basis for the dissolution and call for fresh elections. Consequently, he demanded for cancellation of the upcoming parliamentary elections, reinstatement of the dissolved Assembly, and issuance of a constitutional decree only if dissolution is necessary.

In another development, the Anti-Corruption Public Authority will start receiving reports about corruption on Monday, following the issuance of executive regulations and publication of the law in the Official Gazette.

Head of the authority Abdul- Rahman Al-Namsh affirmed that they will look into every report on corruption in accordance with the regulations, affirming the door is open for individuals or entities to submit such reports or complaints. He said the Parliament members are required to submit their financial disclosure within 60 days after the announcement of election results. He asserted all officials are required to submit their financial disclosure, warning that legal action will be taken against them in case of late submission.

He explained the officials appointed before the issuance of the executive regulations are also required to submit their financial disclosure within six months; adding that the law stipulates prosecution of officials, their wives and children in case of involvement in corruption. Meanwhile, Fifth Constituency candidate and former MP Faisal Al- Kandari said the Constitution does not discriminate between men and women.

In a press statement, he also disclosed that he submitted 42 bills and forwarded 250 questions to ministers when he was a member of the Parliament. He said his top priorities in the previous Parliament included issues concerning women, children and the handicapped.

He highlighted the important role of Kuwaiti women in the development of the nation. He pointed out a woman is a mother, sister, daughter and wife who molds the future generation; so the development goals of a nation will not be realized without her.

He confirmed that he will continue supporting Kuwaiti women’s issues if he wins in the upcoming elections, revealing he presented a number of bills related to women and families such as housing care, granting KD300 monthly allowance for women who are not working, naturalization of the matured children of Kuwaiti women married to non-Kuwaitis, granting citizenship to 5,000 Bedouns annually, health insurance for retirees, establishment of the National Commission for Consumer Protection, protection of children, disabled and family nurseries, middle school level as compulsory education and KD28,000 end-of-service (indemnity) pay for civil servants.

He also talked about a number of other important laws in favor of Kuwaiti families such as protection of the environment, public transport authority, food, medicine and commercial agencies.
