Personnel from the Hawally Traffic Department during a campaign in the Governorate have issued 1,372 traffic citations for reckless motorists — 317 direct citations and 1,055 indirect.

The police have impounded 79 vehicles from motorists for speaking on the phone while driving, not fastening the seat belts and other violations.

The campaign was part of efforts exerted by the governorate to ensure security and safety and to protect road users from accidents and arrest reckless motorists. In a recent campaign led by Lieutenant Colonel Sulaiman Mohammad Al-Sebaie, officers from the General Traffic Department issued 396 citations for serious traffic offenses and impounded 62 vehicles and referred 12 motorists to custody.

Public Relations and Security Information Department said the campaign will continue over an unspecified period to reduce traffic violations while protecting life on roads. General Traffic Department Monday announced opening of the overhead bridge opposite Granada in the direction of Kuwait City and stretching to Al-Jahez Roundabout facing Sabah Hospital, along with existing access roads.

The temporary Granada Roundabout is now cancelled, while Doha Spur Bridge linking Jahra Bridge and Gamal AbdulNasser Road opposite the General Traffic Department toward Kuwait City has been opened. Due to the newly constructed bridge, traffic sector in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works has opened a diversion to Doha Spur Highway opposite the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources via Mesilla.

Motorists and other road-users are urged to exercise caution while approaching the aforementioned locations. It also called for motorists to adhere strictly to traffic codes, sign posts, and instructions from traffic men.
