12 June 2016 Information

A total of 300 Kuwaitis and about 1,000 expatriates in Kuwait are suffering from AIDS, as per the latest statistics issued by the Public health Department a week ago.

According to reports, those infected are of ages between 25 and 50 years. Most of them discovered that they are infected when they applied for work and underwent blood tests, when they tried to donate blood, or when they applied for medical examination before marriage.

Others discovered when blood tests were carried out on them after they were admitted in hospital for treatment of other diseases.

Sources explained that a victim is referred to the Infectious Diseases Hospital for necessary treatment after it is confirmed that he/she is infected with HIV.

They revealed that Kuwait has the least number of newborns that contract HIV from their mothers, indicating 46 babies were born in good health condition even through their mothers were carrying HIV. Expatriates who are discovered to be suffering from AIDS are given appropriate  treatments before they are departed to their countries.
