350 Commercial Businesses Punished For Practicing Commercial Fraud

24 August 2016 Kuwait

About 350 companies and commercial stores in Kuwait have been punished for practicing commercial fraud and increasing prices of commodities, according to the Commercial Supervision and Consumer Protection Department. Some of the fraud accusations were related to commodities’ expiration dates and false countries of origin.

A number of inspectors have been assigned across the country to monitor any future commercial violations, according to Assistant Undersecretary for Commercial Supervision and consumer protection department Eid Al-Rashidi. The violations have been recorded since the government revealed its decision to raise fuel prices starting September 1 this year as part of Kuwait’s economic reforms amid falling oil revenues.
