45,965 Traffic Violations Issued In Traffic Campaigns

The General Traffic Department (GTD) conducted a series of surprise traffic campaigns in the six governorates from May 15-21, 2016. These campaigns resulted in the registration of 45,965 traffic violations, impounding of 1,796 vehicles and 11 motorcycles while 69 individuals were referred to traffic police for committing serious traffic violations. According to a press statement from the Public Relations and Media Security in the Ministry of Interior, eight individuals were referred to the Deportation Center for driving without a license, whereas the ‘smart patrol’ (security monitoring unit patrol) recovered four cars reportedly used in theft cases. The department then urged road users to fully abide by the traffic rules and regulations to guarantee the safety of everyone. It also affirmed the continuation of security awareness campaigns through various social platforms to achieved the desired objectives.
