The security authorities have arrested six Syrians for acquiring the Kuwaiti citizenship in a fraudulent manner, reports Al-Rai daily. The daily added, the arrests came after the higher authorities received a tip-off from reliable sources and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior issued directives to the Assistant Undersecretary for Nationality and Passports to look into the issue in coordination with the Intelligence Security Directorate.

According to reports the Syrians reportedly paid KD 52,000 for the Kuwaiti passports and reaped huge benefits although they are strangers. After getting the Kuwaiti passports, they got the Civil ID, applied for marriage loan, housing and one of them was event sent on scholarship to the United States at the expense of the State.

The daily said three men have already been arrested. They are identified as brothers A.R. and N.R. and their cousin S.A., all employees of the Ministry of Defence. According to security sources investigations proved the main accused knew the Kuwaiti suspect, who is identified only as M.A., in 2000 and he offered to add the names of the two men into his file as his sons in return for KD 15,000 each.

After the men got the Kuwaiti passports and civil IDs, one year later they (N.R. and A.R.) agreed with the same Kuwaiti to add the name of the N.R. into his nationality file for KD 10,000. The sources pointed out the series of forgeries did not stop at this. After two years of the second forgery, the first accused added the son of his relative to his file in return for KD 12,000 and got the Kuwaiti citizenship. It has been pointed out the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution.
