80 Percent Of Adults And 27 Percent Of Children Suffering From Obesity
Professor Rashid Al-Sahal from the College of Education at Kuwait University said 80 percent of adults and 27 percent of children in Kuwait are suffering from obesity.
Al-Sahal made the statement in the recently-concluded seminar organized by the Psychology Department in the College of Education entitled, “Your Ideology Determines Your Weight.” The seminar is one of the activities for the Second Cultural Season of the college under the auspices of its dean — Professor Bader Al-Omar with Head of the department Dr Essa Al-Balhan in attendance while Professor Rashid Al- Sahal delivered a lecture.
In a press statement, the department disclosed that Al-Sahal shed light on the relationship between human beings and their emotions. This is in addition to their behaviors in certain life situations, as well as methods of identifying the significance of psychological approaches in controlling weight and maintaining the body’s natural average need for food. He explained there is a relationship between e human thinking and embarking on food regimen or abstaining from it.
He pointed out those who are overweight have a pessimistic ideology on their ability to reduce weight, thereby, worsening the suffering of the obese. He added the statistics released by the Ministry of Health some years back revealed dangers associated with the rising rate of obesity in the country, especially when the abovementioned obesity rates are taken into consideration.
