A Kuwaiti Man Life In Prison Over Allegations Of Raping His Girlfriend

The Court of Appeals chaired by Judge Abdul- Rahman Al-Darmi overturned the verdict of the Court of First Instance that sentenced a Kuwaiti man to life in prison over allegations of raping his girlfriend.

The court acquitted the defendant regardless of confessing to the crime. Defense Attorney Jarrah Humaid Al-Shuraikah said the defendant had established an intimate relationship with the plaintiff and they both arranged to meet at a particular place from where they rode in a car together.

The woman requested the defendant to find an apartment that would be convenient for their meeting, but he took her to a desert area when he could not find any apartment and had canal knowledge of her in backseat of his car.

Later, he took her to an apartment and slept off but he could not find the woman when he woke up. The lawyer argued the law does not favor any woman above 21 years old who willingly agrees to sexual intercourse.
