Almost One Million Used Tires Were Dumped At Site Hits Proposed Housing Project
Huge pile of used tires dumped at Ureiha (South Saad Al-Abdullah Area) within one year, regardless the location has been allocated for the construction of a residential area to accommodate about 42,000 housing units, reports Al-Qabas daily.
A source from Kuwait Municipality disclosed that an average of 50,000 to 95,000 tires was dumped at the site on monthly basis since April 2014 until March 2015.
He added the current location was allocated to the Public Authority for Housing Welfare to build 42,000 housing units. He stated the authority has been preparing for signing of contracts on the planning and designing of the area and the problem is complicating.
Obstruction
He disclosed that tires dumped on the site have become a major obstruction against the proposed South Saad Al-Abdullah housing project. He pointed to the position of the Municipality in clearing of the tires to enable execution of the project. He stated that gathering tires in a single location is a type of garbage, such that the concerned authority contemplates its sale at one time, and at another time, plans to shift it to another site.
He indicated the Committee for Prequalification of Companies and Establishments once considered sales of used tires through auction and 34 companies, and establishments were pre-qualified. He stressed the Environmental Affairs Department has identified new parts of the used tires at the site, and they will be auctioned in three stages to enable the committee get rid of them. He added another site along Salmi Road has been chosen to replace the current location following its allocation for housing units.
