Arabs Warn Of Terror Threat
The world is facing an increasingly grave security threat in the form of terrorist attacks, a senior Arab diplomat said on Wednesday. Speaking on behalf of Arab nations, head of the Arab group participating in the eighth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations (UN) Convention against Transnational Organized Crime Hussam Al-Husseini said that terrorist attacks have exposed Arab communities to peril and ravaged lives as well as properties.
Moreover, he noted that the fight against terrorism is a fierce one, as “support from the international community is now necessary.” On organized crime, the Arab diplomat said the only way to exterminate it is by tackling the root cause and by initiating new strategies and methods that comply with UN agreements and charters. He also underscored the need to protect children and juveniles from being exploited by criminal networks, in addition to increased efforts to fight money laundering and misuse of information technology.
Al-Husseini added that the international community faces a mounting obligation to combat terrorism and ensure global peace and security. On a related note, the Arab League is set to hold an event at the UN headquarters on Thursday, themed, “The link between Organized Crime and Terrorism in the Middle East.”
