Bahrain Criminal Court Sentenced Dashti To Two Years In Prison

30 March 2016 Kuwait

Kuwait’s parliament has voted to strip lawmaker Abdul Hamid Dashti of his parliamentary immunity and inform him formally about the verdict issued by a court in Bahrain.

Bahrain’s Criminal Court has sentenced Dashti to two years in prison for “involvement through coercion, complacency and assistance in illegal public fund-raising in contravention of the Penal Code and the Public Fundraising Regulatory Law”.

The parliament also lifted Dashti’s immunity in another case.

The lawmakers had earlier turned down an apology from Dashti for not attending the parliamentary session, with only five of the 45 votes in his favour.

In his apology to the parliament, Dashti said that he had suffered a massive heart attack in Geneva and that he could be flown to London for medical treatment.
