Be Alert And Show Wisdom In Traffic Congestion
Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid Al-Sabah has called for officers of the traffic, public security and rescue departments to be on the alert and exhibit exceptional wisdom and experience in dealing with emergency traffic congestion.
In a statement released by the Public Relations and Security Media Department after Sheikh Khalid’s visit to the headquarters of General Traffic Department Sunday at the beginning of the scholastic year, he was quoted as urging senior officers and administrators to be present on the roads each day. He asked the officers not to limit the action to the beginning of the academic year.
He stressed the political leadership gives necessary support to the security apparatus to ensure their assignments for maintaining safety and security in the country are successful. He reaffirmed the leadership is highly committed to finding a lasting solution to the recurrent traffic problems.
He expressed appreciation to traffic officers for their hard work and encouraged them to put more efforts to break the jinx. He revealed consistent coordination at the highest level among the General Traffic Department, General Department for Rescue Police and Public Security Sector to manage the intersections, roads and schools. He observed that such a constructive coordination is in the interest of citizens and expatriates, while it improves the traffic performance.
He stressed over 480 patrol teams manned security Sunday morning on the major roads and schools to ensure a hitch-free resumption for the new academic year. In a speech, Director of Operations at the General Traffic Department Colonel Yousef Al-Khaddah briefed the minister about the surveillance and traffic control operations.
He disclosed that 90 fixed surveillance cameras are on the roads to monitor speed limit while 123 cameras are at the traffic lights, in addition to 18 mobile speed limit surveillance cameras and 79 security surveillance cameras. He also said there are 21 variable message boards, in addition to 231 intersections linked to the operations Room, while the department has been preparing for supply and installation of 20 new variable message boards and 100 security surveillance cameras.
