Bid To Resolve Absconding Cases - Moi

The General Department for Residency Affairs at the Ministry of Interior has started taking new procedures to resolve absconding cases fi led before Jan 4, 2016, says Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passports Major General Mazen Al-Jarrah.

In a press statement, Al- Jarrah explained this will allow those who violated the Residency Law to rectify their status, along with family members under their sponsorship.

He affirmed the General Department for Citizenship and Residency Affairs, represented by the General Department for Residency Affairs, is keen on settling absconding cases in the private sector. He said the concerned officials have had a series of meetings with their counterparts in the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM), indicating these officials have agreed on laying down conditions to address the issue.

He disclosed the meetings have so far resulted in the formation of the Absconding Complaints Resolution Committee by PAM, adding that members shall include a representative of the Public Authority for Residency Affairs. He said the committee has started its work and it has discovered that the absconding complaints fi led against several employees were vexatious.

He revealed that some of the complaints were merely for administrative or procedural reasons; hence, the need to determine the mental state of those involved in order to separate them from those wanted by the Ministry of Interior, since their cases deserve consideration.

He added the committee will include some cases to the aforementioned as a way to end pending residency violations. He revealed the committee has been receiving cases for compilation to pave way for the submission of a report to the General Department for Residency Affairs.

He clarified the department will, in turn, waive payment of fines, followed by a decision to lift security restrictions imposed on those involved in such cases to allow them to legalize their status and that of their dependents. He urged all affected employees to quickly visit the committee with the documents to support their claims in order to lift the security restrictions and then allow them to transfer to new sponsors or resolve differences with their primary sponsors. He reiterated that the committee works during official hours and it is trying its best to resolve all cases immediately.
