Commercial Sector And Apartments To Experience Energy Fees Hike

06 September 2016 Kuwait

Ministry of Electricity and Water’s (MEW) Undersecretary Mohammad Boshehri has underlined that private residence areas including public housing units (traditional Arab houses) in Sulaibiya and Taima would not be required to pay the new electricity and water tariffs, in accordance with law number 20/2016.  He further added that all sectors except residential areas (where houses are built) will have to adhere to the new fees.

Apartment buildings, located in sites officially classified as ‘commercial residence areas,’ and industrial areas as well as places with shops and markets will be subjected to the energy fee hike.

Boshehri has denied rumors circulating that the government is lifting subsidies on electricity and water for citizens. He emphasized that the new law will be imposed only one year later on the commercial sector, while the investment sector will undergo the price change on 22 May, 2017.
