Corrupt Expat Employees Blamed For Municipality Woes

05 September 2016 Kuwait

A number of ‘corrupt expatriate employees’ are to blame for corruption in certain divisions at Kuwait Municipality, an official source has said. The expat employees allegedly enjoy ‘protection from a few officials’ who have access to their evaluation reports, which could lead to their termination.

A reassessment process for all expat employees at the municipality will take place soon, the source added.

However, no details on the alleged corruption allegations were given. Kuwait has been issuing measures to decrease its number of expat employees in the past year. In the first nine months of 2016, it deported 20,000 expats for labour and residency law violations.
