Court Acquits A Citizen Of Consuming Drugs And Driving

30 September 2015 Driving License

The Appeals Court upheld the verdict of a lower court that acquitted a citizen of consuming drugs and driving under the influence of drugs. Case files indicate the citizen admitted he was taking drugs when an officer approached him since he was standing in a suspicious manner in front of a fastfood in Farwaniya for hours and he was laughing hysterically which called the attention of the people at the restaurant. The defendant was charged with possessing heroin and other narcotic substances and driving under the influence of drugs, while traces of morphine were found in his urine sample. The defendant’s lawyer, Attorney Fareeh Al-Kooh, denied all the charges and he pointed out in court the contradictions in the arresting officer’s statements, in addition to the illegal inspection of his client’s vehicle considering the officer did not obtain a warrant from the Public Prosecution.
