21 May 2016 Kuwait

The Criminal Court presided over by Judge Mohammad Ghazi Al-Mutairi acquitted a Kuwaiti citizen accused of robbery, blackmail and battery against a woman. According to the case file, the plaintiff accused the defendant of threatening her, hitting her and robbing her of some of her possessions. During interrogations, the defendant denied the accusations. During the court session, the defense counsel lawyer Bushra Al-Hindal stressed that the allegations against her client are malicious. She explained that her client lent the plaintiff a sum of money and she had signed a receipt to prove she received the money. However, she later raised such allegations against him with the aim of blackmailing him so that he will stop asking her to return the money. Her client refused to give in to her blackmail. Lawyer Al-Hindal revealed that the incident occurred two months before the allegations were raised against her client.
