Court Acquits Expat Woman Of Consuming Alcohol In Public

17 October 2016 Crime News

The Court of Appeals overturned the decision of a lower court that sentenced an expatriate lady to one month in prison followed by deportation, and acquitted her of consuming alcohol in public, despite the legal period of one month for appealing the verdict expired a year ago. The Public Prosecution charged the foreigner of consuming alcohol in public at Salhiya area. In her defense, Attorney Dr Hana’a Bu Jarwa provided substantial evidence to support submission that her client qualified to appeal the verdict even though the legal period for appealing the verdict had expired. He explained the former attorney of her client did not pursue his duties effectively on the case, and failed to notify the client on the decision issued in absentia against her.
