Court To Look Into Constitutional Challenges Of Dna Law On 21 December

The Kuwait's Constitutional Court on Monday set December 21 as a date for looking into constitutional challenges of the DNA law.

On June 13, the court received challenges of the law from citizens questioning the unconstitutionality of the bill. Earlier on July 1, 2015, the National Assembly (Parliament) passed the 13-artcile law making DNA testing mandatory for all people in Kuwait, with the aim of establishing a comprehensive database to be used to identify criminals and terrorists.

People who refuse to make the test face a jail term of maximum one year, and a fine of up to KD10,000, or one of the two penalties. According to Article 11, the law applies to citizens, expats and everybody who enter the country.
