Do You Know To What Your Residency Validity Is Linked To
Do you know to what your residency validity is linked to ?
1. Residency validity is linked to Passport validity – Everybody is requested to take note of the following:
a. If the individual passport validity is less than two years the residence would be renewed only for a year.
b. If the individual passport validity is less than one year the residence will not be renewed.
c, If the individual passport expires before the expiry of the Kuwait residence permit the residence would get cancelled automatically without any prior notice.
2. Residency validity is linked to sponsor residency validity - if your sponsor validity is expired before your residency validity then your residency is no more valid.Director of the Interior Ministry’s Residency Affairs Department Major General Talal Maarafi stressed that starting from January 10, 2016, the renewal validity of expatriates dependents’ residency visa (article 22) would be tied to the validity of those of their own sponsors. “This means that if an expat’s residency is valid for one year, he can only renew those of his wife or kids for a single year,” he explained.
3. No residency for passports valid less than a year - The Interior Ministry's assistant undersecretary for residency and citizenship affairs Maj Gen Sheikh Mazen Al-Jarrah said that expatriates' residency validity would be limited to their passports' validity. "Those holding passports valid for a year will get one-year residency visa and those holding passports valid for two will get a two-year residency," he explained, noting that the residency periods would be determined in full years, meaning that the holder of a passport valid for 18 months would only get a one-year residency and that those holding passports valid for less than 12 months would not be allowed to renew their residency until they renew their passports.
Jarrah stressed that valid iqamas on expired passports will expire too and that sponsors will not have any excuses of forgetting to renew their workers' passports before applying to renew their residencies. "A sponsor is mandated to notice the validity of his workers' passports and we will never paste a residency visa sticker on an expired passport or one valid for only a few months," he underlined.
