Embassy Advises Indian Community To Beware Of Fraudsters
The Government of India has issued an advisory to all Non Resident Indians working overseas to exercise caution and beware of fraudsters.
The advisory states New Delhi has received several reports of Indians being cheated by gangs of fraudsters.
The fraudsters reportedly call the victims and inform them that the local authorities have initiated legal proceedings against them for submitting false information in their immigration documents and as a consequence they can either be jailed or deported.
The fraudsters then demand money with a request to transfer the sum to a lawyer/consultant’s account saying the latter has been appointed by the Indian mission to assist them in their legal proceedings.
To avoid any delay due to bureaucratic procedures, the fraudsters ask the money to be transferred immediately, assuring the victim at the same time that the money will be reimbursed by the Indian mission.
There is a suspicion that these fraudsters use their hacking skills to access personal details of their victims and make them believe they are calling from the embassy. The embassy advises all members of Indian community in Kuwait to beware of such calls.
In the event of such calls members of the community should immediately contact the embassy officials in person or call the embassy.
The phone numbers are available on the website at http://www.indembkwt.org to help the embassy take necessary action.
