13 March 2016 Kuwait

The Environment Public Authority (EPA) launched Saturday a voluntary cleaning campaign of Shuwaikh beach in cooperation with the Embassy of Senegal in Kuwait, and participation of the Kuwaiti Dive Team (KDT).

The event is part of the "It's worth our protection" campaign's activities, which aims at raising public awareness on environment protection and promoting volunteering, EPA Chairman and General-Director Sheikh Abdullah Ahmad Al-Humoud Al-Sabah said in a press statement.

The campaign sheds light on important environmental issues, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Humoud said, adding that the event also tends to interact directly with the people and encourage them to participate in the environmental development programs and activities.
He also mentioned that the voluntary event aims at promoting the new environment protection law in order to enhance the performance of local environmental bodies and organizations and control the number of violations of the Kuwaiti environment.

The state and private sectors' participation in the campaign is so important in various aspects, including bolstering the social and cultural awareness levels regarding environmental issues, he noted, praising the active participation by the Senegalese embassy and KDT in the event's activities, setting a fine role model example in the field of environment service.

For his part, Senegalese Ambassador Abdou Lahad Mbacke commended the efforts exerted by EPA in raising awareness among citizens and residents on environment law and preserving Kuwait, pointing out his mission's support to all effort towards preserving the environment.
