Gtd Conducted Surprise Inspection Campaigns In The 6 Governorates

The General Traffic Department (GTD) conducted surprise inspection campaigns in the six governorates from Jan 8-14, 2017 resulting in the issuance of 33,638 citations, impounding of 66 vehicles and one motorbike, referral of 72 persons to be under police custody, referral of 10 expatriates to the Deportation Center, arrest of two other persons, and confiscation of 16 vehicles wanted by law for being used in committing crimes.

In a press statement, the department revealed that in the Capital Governorate, a total of 9,045 violations were recorded within the abovementioned period while eight vehicles were impounded, nine persons were put under the custody of GTD, and two others were referred for deportation.

In Farwaniya Governorate, 2,522 violations were registered, nine vehicles were impounded, seven persons were put under the custody of GTD, and one person was referred to the Deportation Center.

In Hawally Governorate, there were 5,524 violations while nine vehicles were impounded, eight persons were referred to GTD, three persons to the Deportation Center and one wanted by law for involvement in an undisclosed case was arrested. In Ahmadi Governorate, the number of traffic violations recorded reached 4,111, eight vehicles were impounded, eight persons were put under the custody of GTD and one was referred to the Deportation Center.

In Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate, a total of 2,457 violations were registered, eight vehicles were impounded, seven persons were put under the custody of GTD and one person was referred for deportation.

In Jahra Governorate, the number of violations totaled 4,218 whereas 12 vehicles were impounded, 10 persons were put under the custody of GTD, two persons were referred for deportation and one person wanted by law was arrested. Meanwhile, the Operations Unit at GTD issued 5,761 citations, seized 10 vehicles and one motorbike, confiscated 16 vehicles used in committing crimes, and referred 23 persons to the Traffic Department.
