His Highness The Amir To Open Assembly

05 December 2016 Kuwait

The Parliament’s Secretariat General continues its preparations in all sectors for the opening of the 15th legislative term on Dec 11, 2016, says Secretary General of the Parliament Allam Al- Kandari. While confirming that His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah will inaugurate the new legislative term, Al-Kandari congratulated all winners in the 2016 Parliament election as they obtained the trust of citizens.

He pointed out that first-time and former MPs who did not witness changes in the electronic systems, particularly the electronic voting system in Abdullah Al-Saleem Hall, will be welcomed during the opening session. He said an introductory reception will be held at 11:00 am on Dec 6, 2016 for the presentation of machines in the Administrative and Technical Sections of the Secretariat General. He implored God Almighty to help all of them in their efforts to realize the aspirations of the people under the wise leadership of HH the Amir.

On the other hand, MP-elect Hamad Al-Harshani recently met the secretary general and advisors of the National Assembly to discuss preparations for the opening session in his capacity as interim Speaker of the Parliament — a position he occupies temporarily based on age. He revealed they tackled various arrangements and mechanisms for supervising the opening session and following up the progress of the session until the Speaker is elected.

On another issue, MP-elect MP Nasser Al-Dousari stressed the need for the government to prioritize overseas treatment issues as the situation of patients and their companions has worsened. He argued that the government must be responsible for the errors committed by the Health Ministry, specifically the mismanagement of overseas treatment. He wondered why the ministry attributed overseas treatment problems to lack of budget despite the allocation of funds for this purpose. He asserted the health and safety of patients should be on top of the ministry’s priorities, warning that delays in providing financial assistance are unacceptable.

He called on His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al- Hamad Al-Sabah to consolidate the budget for overseas treatment, taking into consideration that US and European hospitals have been demanding for payment of bills while the patients and their companions are still waiting for their allowance.

He also argued that talks on budget deficit are pointless considering Kuwait’s continuous donations to other countries, the latest of which was the concessional loan of $500 million granted to Tunisia. He added Kuwaitis must enjoy the wealth of their country so the government should provide citizens with the best health care program inside or outside Kuwait without delay.
