Kuwait Court Acquits Shaikh Ahmad

26 January 2016 Kuwait

Kuwait’s Court of Appeals on Monday reversed the verdict of the criminal court and acquitted Shaikh Ahmad Al Fahad of the charge of insulting the judiciary. The lower court in December sentenced Shaikh Ahmad, a leading member of Kuwait's ruling family and international sports figure, to six months in jail and set a KD1,000 bail to suspend the sentence.

The case was filed against him after he allegedly used an interview with a local television “to cast doubt on the integrity of the judiciary, insult the public prosecution and instigate against public order. ”The TV crew who conducted the interview with Shaikh Ahmad on Al Watan television station had been acquitted by the lower court.
