Kuwait Cricket Director Of Match Officials Riaz Chaudhry Is No More

The most qualified umpire and one of the most regarded cricket personality in Kuwait Muhammad Riaz Chaudhry passed away in Kuwait on Tuesday while at work in the Ministry of Defence where he was employed.

He recently completed 60 years in December and leaves behind his wife, a son and a daughter along with thousands of friends, colleagues and fans all around the globe. The funeral prayers are planned Wednesday after which his remains will be flown back to his homeland Pakistan where his family and loved ones await.

Riaz Chaudhry was a well-known figure in the Cricket arena in Kuwait.

He was the Director of Match Officials at Kuwait Cricket was a founding member of the governing body of cricket in Kuwait since it was conceived in the 80’s. Hails from Pakistan, he lived most of his adult life in Kuwait.  He held the distinction of writing the first constitution of the cricket board. He was also the founding member of Kuwait Cricket Umpires Panel (K-CUP).

Spanning an international career of over 12 years he officiated as umpire in prestigious tournaments organized by ICC and ACC in both the short and long versions of the game all over the world. While officiating at the A List category ICC WCL tournaments he rubbed shoulders with legendary umpires Simon Taufel and Tony Hill bringing their insight to Kuwait Cricket for its development.

An accredited Level-1 umpire’s educator, Riaz Chaudhary gave a major share of his time towards uplifting the umpiring standards in Kuwait through his mentoring and teaching, creating educational programs and incorporating new members in K-CUP.
