Kuwait Embassy Official In Zimbabwe Brenda Avril May Shocked Over Trafficking Charges

21 August 2016 Kuwait

Chief Secretary of Kuwait Embassy in Zimbabwe Brenda Avril May, who is facing human trafficking charges, recently said at the Harare Magistrates’ Court that she was shocked that some victims of the alleged human trafficking had reported her especially since they had actually shown interest in going back to Kuwait. May denied the charges, insisting that she only conducted her secretarial duties. Through her lawyer from Motsi and Associates, May said she never intentionally or illegally recruited or transferred anyone to Kuwait.

The lawyer said, “All the time she had only been acting in her professional capacity within the limitation of her duties. She had no reason to suspect that anyone was being recruited for purposes of trafficking. She had no reason to suspect the conditions under which the complainants would work as she was merely performing her secretarial duties as an employee of the Kuwaiti Embassy. She was surprised by the attitude of some of the complainants as they were the ones who went to the Kuwaiti Embassy with the desire to return to Kuwait and get back their jobs.”
