Kuwaiti Students In Britain Face Visa Problems

25 September 2016 Kuwait

Around 100 Kuwaiti students on scholarship in Britain have encountered problems due to failure to obtain a British visa on time and this might lead to their expulsion from universities because of excessive absences.

The problems were made worse by the Kuwaiti embassy’s inability to find a solution, indicating some parents filed complaints in the Foreign Affairs and Higher Education ministries. Commenting on the issue, British Ambassador to Kuwait Matthew Lodge pointed out everyone knows this is the peak season for student visa applications.

He added the British Embassy issued more than a thousand visas for Kuwaiti students since the middle of last month till date. He clarified dozens of people, not 100, have encountered difficulties in obtaining a visa for unknown reasons affirming the embassy is working hard to solve this problem.

He added that he has coordinated with Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Director of the Cultural Office in Britain Dr Fauzan Al-Faris.

He also met some members of the National Union of Kuwaiti Students in Britain to work with them in order to solve the problem. He assured the concerned Kuwaiti students that they will not be expelled from the British universities just because of the delay in visa issuance, as the universities have been informed about the problem through the cultural office there.
