Ministry Of Health To Increase Expats Health Fees

05 June 2016 Kuwait

Kuwait’s Ministry of Health (MoH) is likely to increase health fees for expats in the private sector by between 15 to 20 percent before the end of 2016, Undersecretary Dr Khaled Al-Sahlawi told Kuwait Times.

Three hospitals are being built to provide medical services for expats in the private sector. Once the hospitals are completed in 2019, public health services will only be available to citizens and expats in the public sector, Sahlwai said at a meeting with the parliament’s budgets and final statements committee.

He said the ministry investigated fees collected from expats for radiology, nuclear and lab tests and compared them to those collected by the private sector.

“The committee found a huge difference despite the ministry’s operational costs being much higher,” he said.

The report said 15 medical centres would also be built for expats working in the private sector, who are thought to number about two million.
