08 January 2017 Kuwait

Interior Ministry Undersecretary Lieutenant General Sulaiman Al-Fahad has instructed the Environment Police Department to look into violations of environment protection regulations, particularly the improper dumping construction waste and other types of garbage. In a press statement, Al-Fahad disclosed some contractors or individuals just leave construction waste, sand, mixed cement, ready-made iron and wood used in building houses or maintenance works in residential, investment and commercial areas.

He pointed out the Environment Protection Law stipulates fine ranging from KD 50 to KD 500 for those who violate Article 33 which states that all waste materials must be thrown in specialized containers. He said some people dump waste anywhere without any regard for the law.

He went on to say there are those who connect sewage pipes erroneously, thereby, damaging the environment and endangering public health. He then stressed the need to strictly comply with the regulations and directives issued by authorities. He added there were also errors during demolitions, construction and digging in houses such that the environment and public health is in danger
