Mp Called For A Review Of The Citizens Retirement Law
MP Faisal Al- Kandari has called for a review of the Citizens Retirement Law, pointing out the law is unfair and so it should be amended. In a press statement, Al-Kandari suggested granting women the right to retire after 15 years in service and 20 years for their male counterparts in order to address loopholes in the current law.
He believes that early retirement will solve a number of issues like unemployment, underemployment and the need to give deserving youths a chance to prove their abilities. He then urged the executive and legislative authorities to adopt his proposal to ensure equality for all retirees.
Meanwhile, MP Waleed Al-Tabtabaei has forwarded questions to Minister of Public Works Abdulrahman Al-Mutawa on Jaber Hospital. He said the contract for establishing the hospital was signed in November 2009 and an agreement was reached at the time to hand over the project within 48 months, supposedly in 2013, but the hospital has yet to operate although seven years have passed since then.
He wants to know if the project has been completed. If yes, why there is no official announcement in this regard? If no, what are the reasons behind the delay? He asked whether the contractor complied with all provisions of the contract or not, deadline for handing over the hospital to the Ministry of Health and expected date of opening it to serve citizens.
On the other hand, Al-Tabtabaei presented a proposal to repair and expand the main road in Ardiya Industrial Area by separating the commercial shops area and Zayed Al-Nahyan Highway (Fifth Ring Road) to make two lanes and an entry for those going to the residential area in Ardiya.
In another development, MP Yousif Al-Fadala said the law on reducing juvenile age to 16 years that was passed by the previous Parliament contradicts international norms and conventions. He added the statement of Judge Darar Al-Asousi supports his opinion as he demanded earlier to restore the previous law which states 18 years old as juvenile age. He also appealed to the minister of justice to endorse the request of the Public Prosecution to amend the law.
