Mpw Celebrated Opening Of Jahra Road Mainline

Under the patronage of the Minister of Electricity and Water and Minister of Public Works and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Khaled Al-Jassar, Kuwait witnessed on the morning of 23 November, the opening of the remaining section of the Jahra road project elevated mainline viaduct, extending for 5 km starting from hospitals area to Al- Shuwaikh residential area.

To celebrate the occasion, a special ceremony was held at the JW Marriott Hotel, with the attendance of several representatives of the Ministry of Public Works, including Dr. Ali Al-Omair - Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Previously, Abdul Aziz Al-Ibrahim - Minister of Electricity and Water and the former Minister of Public Works, Dr. Fadhel Safar - former Minister of public Works and Minister of State for planning Affairs and development.  In addition, the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Yasser Abdel Qader, and a group of representatives from the government and private parties that have contributed to the success of this project attended the event.

On the sidelines of a press conference held at the opening of the bridge, Minister Khaled Al-Jassar, said: "This opening represents a great milestone in the ministry's strategic plan for the development of the road network in Kuwait , as it is this opening the main Jahra bridge, which has a total length of 8 kilometers now opened entirely to road users heading from Jahra to Kuwait City, ascending by Granada area over the United Nations Roundabout until it descends by Kifan nex to Kuwait Club. The other direction to the Jahra city, will be opened on the evening of Friday, 25 November. "

The special ceremony opened with the national anthem and a welcome speech, followed by a word from the Minister Al-Jassar. In her speech, Madam Awatif Al Ghunaim, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works, pointed out that the ministry is working hard to achieve the architectural renaissance and infrastructural development desired in various mandated areas in order to realize the vision of transforming Kuwait into a global economic attraction and commercial center.

“A plan to fully develop the Jahra Road comes with the ministry’s increased attention to road projects believing in the strategic importance of such ventures. The Ministry of Public Works will not stop at this point, as we have developed an integrated plan for the design and implementation of an infrastructural  network and major internal and integrated routes, including bridges and tunnels across the country,” she added. 

On his part, Eng Ahmed Al Hassan, Assistant Undersecretary for Roads Engineering sector in the Ministry of Public Works, said: “The Jahra Road project comprises the construction of an elevated Jahra mainline viaduct consisting of a two-way bridge with four lanes in each direction, 5 multileveled intersections, a 620 meters long tunnel. The total length of bridges and ramps reaches 32 kilometers, with a total of 850 thousand cubic meters of concrete, and 180 thousand tons of steel reinforcement, amounting to one million meters asphalt “.

Al Hassan took this occasion to announce future tenders, as well as the progress updates and the partial opening taking place in the other largest transport infrastructure project – The Jamal Abdul Nasser St development project during the next two weeks.

It is worth mentioning that Mr. Yasser Abdul Qader, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, honored his ceremony guests, were he also thanked all those who contributed to the completion of the development of Jahra Road mainline from the Ministry of Public Works, and the Arab Contractor Company in solidarity with the Arab Contractors Company of Kuwait, and the joint venture of consultant Louis Berger and Pace, in addition to all government parties and ministries, of which MOI which contributed effectively to the completion of the project, as well all other private institutions.
