No Intention To Oblige Citizens To Pay For Cleaning Services - Kuwait Municipality
Category: Information

Director General of Kuwait Municipality Engineer Ahmad Al-Manfouhi denied rumors concerning the government’s decision to oblige every citizen who owns a house or real estate to pay a monthly sum of KD 15 to the municipality for cleaning services.

In a statement, Engineer Al-Manfouhi explained that the State receives KD 1 for each electricity bill paid by real estate owners — as per Law No. 61/2000 issued by the municipal council. He explained “the idea of obliging Kuwaiti house owners or real estate owners to pay KD 15 monthly to the Municipality for cleaning service has neither been proposed nor discussed, and if it were to happen, the idea would be discussed and studied before proposing or publicizing it.”

Al-Manfouhi affirmed the cleaning companies have no business with the fee of KD 1 received by Government, noting tenders floated are completely different from that of the previously mentioned law. Meanwhile, volunteering groups of residents involved in mounting pressure on the governmental bodies concerned with housing welfare projects are planning to host a sit-in at the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) to protest against delay in the execution of infrastructure projects.

Regarding the expansion project at Wafra, the residents said they have started pulling themselves together to demand the execution of infrastructure and contract for public buildings and other delayed projects in their area.

Also, the residents of government houses in Jaber Al-Ahmad area are also planning for a similar ‘family sit-in’ after receiving licenses from official bodies to protest against prices that were endorsed for residential housing units they received recently.

They argued the price is set at KD 60,090 amid bad finishing and construction errors; whereas the price of housing units in Saad Al-Abdullah do not exceed KD 55,000.

They disclosed holding meetings with voluntary committees from northwest Sulaibikhat and plot owners in Jaber Al-Ahmad area, as a preliminary step to refer a petition to HH the Prime Minister on problems in the new residential areas, as well as injustices endured by the residents.
