Panel Discussed Study On Classifying Private Schools
Parliament’s Education Committee discussed a study that was carried out to classify private schools into different categories based on the services they offer to students.
They indicated that this study highlights the need for Ministry of Education to have the right to categorize private schools, revealing that the parliament and Cabinet have agreed on the study as a step towards reforming the law on private schools.
Rapporteur of the Education Committee MP Hamoud Al-Hamdan pointed out the differences in the budgets of various private schools, indicating that many schools have high budgets and others have low budgets. He explained that the lawmakers will work on issuing laws that will give Ministry of Education authority over private schools in terms of determining the fees to be charged by each school based on its budget. Currently, Ministry of Education has no authority over private schools except in rejecting unsuitable teachers.
Al-Hamdan said he is expecting the issue will be handled during the coming parliamentary session. In another development, Public Prosecution has submitted the name of MP Abdulhameed Dashti to the Interpol, requesting that he be arrested and handed over to the Kuwaiti authorities. In addition, MP Kamel Al-Awadhi revealed that the proposal which he presented in the last parliamentary session to implement daylight saving time by two hours in Kuwait during the summer months has been referred to the Cabinet and it will be forwarded to Ministry of Education and Ministry of Finance to study its feasibility and usefulness.
