Proposal To Charge Extra Fee For Renewal Of Old Cars

30 July 2015 Kuwait

The General Traffic Department prepared a project to enforce cumulative fees on renewing old vehicles and forwarded it to the Interior Ministry, reports local daily. The project would cover vehicles over 20 years of age, and suggests fees ranging between KD 50 and KD 100. According to report, if the study goes through, an owner of a car that is 21 years old would have to pay KD 50 when renewing the vehicle’s registrations, while someone who owns a 22 years old car would pay KD 70, whereas an owner of a 23 years old car pays KD 100. The fee would increase the older the car gets, said sources with knowledge of the study. The goal behind the study is to help ‘eliminate’ rickety cars since there are no regulations that allow authorities to impound working ones.
