Respect Expatriates For Contributions To Development

06 November 2015 Kuwait

Citizens, expatriates and owners of real estate properties and other businesses have expressed concern over some statements issued recently claiming that the expatriates are interfering in weddings and other ceremonies. They said many Kuwaitis have affirmed that only a few expatriates attend gatherings even during Ramadan.

They pointed out the expatriates came to this country to work and they pay fees for medical services although they have no access to many medicines and the cost of X-ray for them is high. They added the revenues of property owners increased due to the rising rental fees; indicating the expatriates work in many fields like health, engineering and academic, besides other works they have done so they should not be considered inferior to citizens.

They said the owners of properties enjoy a luxurious life because of revenues from properties rented to expatriates and if the population of the latter decreases, the property owners will be the worst hit along with those who own private schools which continue to increase tuition fees.

One of those interviewed by the daily urged the authorities to be careful in making statements about the expatriates who should be respected by each citizen in the same manner the former show respect for Kuwaitis when they visit their countries. He also stressed the need to hold accountable the official bodies that contributed to the spread of human trafficking.

On the other hand, Professor at the Faculty of Sharia in Kuwait University Dr Tareq Al-Tawari posted a statement on his Twitter account apologizing on behalf of the entire Kuwaiti nation for the mistake committed by a senior official against the expatriates. He stressed the expatriates are noble people who greatly contributed to the development of the country and they remain committed to their duties.
