Seven Most Common Reasons For Irregular Periods
Besides being pregnant or going through your menopause, an irregular or missed period is a strong indicator that something is going wrong with your health and you should start investigating what could be the possible reason for that, missing a period for three months or more can be a result of irregular production of woman sex hormones which can lead to many other complications, the following are some of the most common reasons for having irregular or missed periods in young women.
1- Being Under High Levels Of Stress.
One of the main reasons you may be experiencing missed or irregular periods is the amount of stress you are putting yourself under, when you are stressed, your adrenal glands work excessively which can disrupt the production of essential hormones needed to regulate your period and fertility like estrogen, when estrogen levels are low in your body you won’t be able to ovulate on time neither build a strong uterine lining, which means you won’t get your period on time.
2- Eating A Poor Diet.
Poor diet that is low in the essential nutrients your body need and at the same time high in stimulants can get the adrenal to overwork, meaning that the production of cortisol in your body will increase and the production of other essential hormones including sex hormones will decrease, the thing that can lead to irregular menstrual cycle.
Â
3- Extremely Low Weight.
When your body mass index goes any lower than 18 then it is highly likely that you will start experiencing absent periods, extremely low body weight means that the body contain very little or no fat stored, fat in important in the production of estrogen and may even lead to other hormonal and bones problems.
4- Over Exercising.
Although moderate exercising is highly recommended for everyone, over exercising can create unneeded health problems including missed periods, over exercising can put too much pressure on the adrenal, thyroid and pituitary glands which makes your body feel like its under stress and produce higher levels of cortisol which as we said earlier disrupt the production of estrogen.
5- Thyroid Problems.
Recent studies proved that about 15 percent of hormonal related problems are caused by Thyroid irregularities, although you may not even suspect it but that could be very likely the reason you are experiencing irregular periods.
6- Stopping Your Birth Control Bills.
It is possible to experience some irregularities with your period or even stop getting your period while you are on birth control pills, but some women keep on experiencing missed periods even after their stop taking the birth control pills, although doctors assure that your body should adjust itself and start getting regular periods within a few months after stopping the pills but some women may experience missed periods for a year or more.
7- Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.
Polycystic ovarian Syndrome is a condition where women experience sex hormones imbalance that impact the levels of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone, which can lead to many problems like missed periods, abnormal body or facial hair growth, weight gain, acnes and irregular blood sugar.
