Surprise Security Raid, 34 Expats Arrested In Sharq

11 January 2016 Kuwait

In a surprise raid by plainclothes detectives at Sharq fish market, 34 expatriates are arrested for violating the residency law. The ministry of interior has begun a massive crackdown on illegals towards the end of last year and vowed to continue to arrest illegals citing them as a security threat to the country.

Yesterday government has announced a partial amnesty for all illegal residents in Kuwait. Residency violators will be allowed to pay their fines and either legalize their status or leave the country without being blacklisted. This will mean they can return on a new visa in the future. Unlike in previous years, however, fines of residency violators will not be forgiven and must still be cleared.
