15 June 2016 Crime News

The Syrian who acquired the Kuwaiti citizenship on the strength of forged documents and worked as police officer is in custody of the State Security police for interrogation, reports Al-Rai daily. The sources added the officer has been stripped of his service ID and privileges, pending the outcome of investigations. According to reliable sources, the officer is said to have admitted that he knew of his Syrian origin.

This in itself is a violation of military code of moral conduct especially he works in a sensitive security department. The sources said according to the preliminary investigations the officer revealed he has two sisters — one carried her original nationality while the other has been granted the Kuwaiti nationality after she married a Kuwaiti.

The sources pointed out, the officer also has two brothers, in addition to his father and uncle who are working in the oil sector. Meanwhile, acting on information and armed with a warrant issued by the Public Prosecution, police raided the homes of two Syrians in Sabah Al-Salem and Mubarak Al-Kabir and took them into custody for obtaining the Kuwaiti citizenship through fraudulent means, reports Al-Rai daily.

According to a security source, the story dates back to 1970 when a Kuwaiti agreed with a Syrian to add his son to his file. The Syrian who obtained the citizenship had a brother living in Kuwait as ‘bedoun’ and after getting rid of his original identification papers, he too entered into an agreement with the same Kuwaiti and he too got the citizenship. It has been reported that the son of one of the brothers is a first lieutenant working for a very sensitive Interior Ministry department. The brothers have been referred to the Public Prosecution.
