Third Kuwaiti Citizen Killed In Lebanon

A third Kuwaiti national has been killed in Lebanon, Kuwaiti media reported. The Kuwaiti man was found dead in Burj Hammoud town, northeast of the Lebanese capital Beirut, on Saturday, two days after two other Kuwaitis were killed in Kahala neighbourhood in east Beirut. Kuwait’s Ambassador in Beirut Abdulaal Al Qenai said that he had been informed about the murder by the Lebanese authorities.

“The embassy is coordinating with the Lebanese security services regarding the probes into the crime and the motives behind it,” he told Kuna. “Under the current exceptional security conditions, the embassy renews previous warnings against coming to Lebanon and urges its nationals to leave the country as soon as possible,” he said.

Kuwaiti media identified the latest victim as Salah Abu Al Banat, saying that a sharp object was used to kill him. The security authorities have arrested three suspects and one of them confessed during the investigations that he killed a Kuwaiti and a Syrian and that he dumped their bodies on the coastal road. A police patrol was dispatched to the location where it found the two corpses, Kuwaiti daily Al Nahar reported on Sunday.

On Friday, the Lebanese Internal Security Forces (ISF) said they arrested two Syrian suspects, 41 and 39 years old, who confessed to the murder of two Kuwaitis in Kahala the day before. Preliminary investigations showed that theft was the motive behind the brutal murder of the two victims, the National News Agency (NNA) reported citing a statement by the ISF.

Al Nahar said that the two Kuwaitis were Hassan Al Nassar, 58, and Nabil Gharib, 56, the brother of Emmanuel Benjamen Gharib, the Reverend and Pastor of the National Evangelical Church of Kuwait. The two murderers said they used a hammer to kill the two Kuwaitis in their bid to rob them. The Kuwaiti embassy later issued a statement expressing appreciation of the ISF efforts which led, in a short time, to the arrest of the killers of two Kuwaiti nationals.

The diplomatic mission said it expressed profound gratitude to the Lebanese security personnel and politicians who showed solidarity with Kuwait and denounced the crime. It offered condolences to the families of the two victims and expressed confidence in the ability of the impartial judiciary of Lebanon to mete out the appropriate punishment to the perpetrators of the crime.

The recent security and political instability in Lebanon had prompted Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates to issue warnings to their nationals not to travel to the Mediterranean country and to dvice those staying there to leave.
