The Director- General of the General Administration of Customs Khaled Al-Saif has issued oral instructions to tighten customs supervision at land, sea and air ports, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting a customs official who preferred to remain anonymous. He pointed out according to oral instructions the official has recommended the use of sniffer dogs at all ports 24/7 and to suspend all leave for the staff during the next few days.

The source explained following the issuance of oral instructions customs inspections at various ports were stepped up with thorough checks on people and luggage arriving at departing by all means of transport aircraft and ships, civilian vehicle and goods trucks. The same source added the research and investigation management of customs offices has supplied all customs centers with plate numbers of Kuwaiti and Gulf vehicles wanted by the security authorities for various reasons — either involvement of the owners in terrorist acts or security issues. The source added the security authorities are looking out for about 20 Kuwaiti- and Gulf-registered vehicles.

The source stressed that there is cooperation and coordination between the General Administration of Customs and the Ministry of the Interior, to provide the customs investigation department with all the information about people who might try to enter the country to carry out any subversive operations. He said that the exchange of information between the Gulf security agencies also contributed significantly to the detection of persons before their entry into the country.
