Two Kuwaiti Citizens Who Were Caught In Possession Of Heroin And Avion For Consumption
The Misdemeanor Court of First Instance refrained from pronouncing penalty against two Kuwaiti citizens who were caught in possession of heroin and “Avion” for consumption. However, their expatriate friend has been sentenced to 15 years in prison followed by deportation for possessing “Avion” with the intention of selling it.
According to the case file, the arresting officer was patrolling Salmiya area when he saw the second defendant driving recklessly and causing traffic jam.
The first and third defendants were with him inside the car. When the officer approached them, he saw the first defendant throw a sachet containing the narcotic to the other defendants and attempting to flee but the officer managed to catch him. The second and third defendants who were also in a disoriented state like the first defendant were unable to explain why the sachet was thrown at them.
Laboratory test conducted on sample of the seized 710 gram items revealed that they were heroin and two sachets of Avion.
However, counsel to the second and third defendants Lawyer Mohammad Saqer faulted the procedures that led to search and arrest of his clients. He declared that the step was taken without official authorization, adding that the testimonies against them were inconsistent due to which he urged the court to set his clients free.
