Violence In Schools In Kuwait Has Significantly Increased In Recent Years

13 November 2015 Kuwait

Rise in school violence in Kuwait particularly in intermediate schools, an education official said Thursday.
Students under 18 year-old constantly commit physical and verbal abuses against their peers to impose their wills or opinions, Khaled Al-Deqbasi, director of Abdullah bin Al-Zubair Middle School for Boys, said at a workshop, entitled "No to Violence", held by the school's social and psychological service office.

This increase of violence is due to students' limited understanding about the school's nature and goals, in addition to difference in opinions, he said.
Meanwhile, Fawaz Al-Mutairi, a staff member in the juvenile care department in the social affairs and labor ministry, noted that his department receives about 3,000 cases of student violence every year, adding that students admitted to the department go through a number of reformation phases, including social monitoring, social care, and social hospitality.

Crime is the most wrong decision that a student takes in moment of anger, which leads to the destruction of his future, Al-Mutairi noted, adding that some students mistakenly believe that negative acts and violence are part of masculinity and manhood without realizing the true meaning of manhood.
