Description

Maki started out in the kitchen of Mohamad Zeitoun, the founder and managing partner of the famous restaurant chain. Mohamad would prepare Japanese fusion meals which were met with great acclaim from his guests and friends. Mohamad decided to pursue his dreams and collaborated with his brother, Amer Zeitoun, and the first Maki restaurant opened in Kuwait, in December 2002. Maki had the privilege of not only being the first fine, contemporary fusion Japanese restaurant to open in Kuwait, but the first to be opened throughout the entire Middle East as well. The initial Maki restaurant was tucked away in the alleyways of Salmiya, but despite this obscure location, people slowly but surely started to recognize this little restaurant with its charismatic aura and the ability to successfully provide the art of contemporary Japanese fine dining. Maki, later on, opened its doors at the Marina Waves, which provided the new restaurant’s guests with an amazing view of the city and the beaches of Kuwait. The third restaurant opened at the Avenues Mall, a huge, high-class shopping mall. Later on, Maki opened in a more relaxed area, inside the new Burj Jassim, which is an ideal venue for private parties and business meetings. Both Maki Marina Waves, and Maki The Avenues recently underwent respective “face-lifts” that are in line with the modern trends which Maki capitalises on, while maintaining its pioneering role across all markets. Visit a Maki Kuwait location and you are almost guaranteed to experience first hand one of Maki’s local and loayl guests enjoying a dish that was named after them and that they collaborated with Maki’s chefs to create. Case in point: Manayer Maki, Dhari W. Maki, and Sheikh Majed Maki.
