59 Kuwaiti Men And Women Lose Citizenship
The citizenship of 59 Kuwaiti men and women were revoked based on a decision issued by the higher committee for citizenship affairs headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid Al-Jarrah, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
This decision, which was published in the official gazette “Kuwait Alyoum”, was in accordance with articles 9, 10 and 11 of the Amiri decree No. 15/1959 on the Kuwaiti citizenship law. According to article No. 9, Kuwaiti citizenship will not be cancelled for expatriate women married to Kuwaiti citizens after the end of the marriage contract except if the women obtain their original citizenship or another nationality.
Article No. 10 stipulates that Kuwaiti women married to non-Kuwaitis will not lose their Kuwaiti citizenship unless they obtain the citizenship of their husbands based on their request. Article No. 11 stipulates that Kuwaiti citizens will lose their citizenship if they obtain the nationality of another country, but their wives will not lose their citizenship unless they too obtain the nationality of their husbands
