Imprisonment For Man Overturned In Drugs Case
The Court of Appeals overturned the verdict issued by a lower court which sentenced an individual to seven-year imprisonment with hard labor. The court instead acquitted him of the charges leveled against him, which included possession of mental stimulants and narcotic pills with the intention of consumption and peddling.
According to the case file, officers from the Drugs Control General Department were issued a warrant for the arrest of the suspect. A trap was set for him with the help of undercover police to lure him into selling narcotic pills at a price of KD 100.
The suspect was caught redhanded conducting the transaction. During interrogations, he admitted to peddling and consuming narcotic pills and brain stimulants. He also led the officers to the place where he stored his illicit items.
During the court session, the defense counsel lawyer Jarrah Al-Sharika appealed against the lower court’s verdict, insisting that the arrest and inspection of his client were done illegally due to the fact that the arrest warrant was issued after the arrest.
Lawyer Al-Sharika presented evidences to prove his client was booked in one of the jails at 3:10 am and not in the evening as indicated in the prosecution’s account. However, the time of issuance of the arrest warrant was at 4:15 am the same day.
